La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB cream in Light review and swatches

What is claims: "Hydrates for 12 hours
Hydreane BB Cream embodies all the thermal
hydration and comfort of the Hydreane range
for all sensitive skin types. The La Roche-Posay
Thermal Spring Water is combined with a
hydration complex based on glycerine and
sodium hyaluronate, vegetal oils (passion
flower, apricot kernel, maize, bran, rice) and
Shea butter.

Soothes
When you apply Hydreane BB Cream, skin
breathes a sigh of relief, regaining its
freshness and “calm” thanks to the naturally
soothing effects of La Roche-Posay Thermal
Spring Water. It is a pure, soft water thanks to
its near-neutral acidity level (pH) and its ideal
balance of mineral salts and trace elements
which respects the physiological balance of
sensitive skin.

Strengthens
Hydreane BB Cream is not just another “BB”:
first and foremost, it is a dermatological
skincare product. The naturally high selenium
content of La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring
Water aids skin’s defense mechanisms against
the free radicals that can cause manifold skin
deregulations

Unifies and illuminates
Hydreane BB Cream contains a unique
“BB” pigment dosage. The perfect combination
of pigments to suit all skin tones, correct
imperfections and instantly unify the complexion.
Its rich, almost creamy texture melts into skin
without ever caking." (Source: La Roche Posay Press Kit)

The new La Roche-Posay BB Cream is available in Canada since March 6th 2013! I was very surprised to learn that they came out with a BB cream, since they are a brand that strictly focus on skincare.

It comes in a 40mL tube that is rather compact. The company doesn't claim it as a base product :
"Is it a foundation?
No. Even if they contain hydrating or anti-aging active
ingredients, foundations are make-up rather than skincare
products. They also fail to concentrate soothing ingredients
like Hydreane BB Cream. Lastly, their shades are not
universal. That is why they come in 5, 10, 15 shades or even
more, whereas there are only two for Hydreane BB Cream.

Is it a tinted moisturizer?
Again, no. Tinted moisturizers tint the complexion but do
not enhance radiance like Hydreane BB Cream can. They
are virtually no skin-treating, soothing, or protective active
ingredients.

Is it a hybrid care product?
Yes! It is a complete product: 100% skincare…100% make-up…
for sensitive skin. Its unique texture, a “skincare-complexion
booster” which offers multiple benefits by associating a
number of functions to meet all skin’s needs and desires for
BB-like skin, particularly if it is delicate, and unpredictable.
It promises supple, fresh and comfortable skin, which is also
uniform, flawless and incredibly luminous." (Source: La Roche-Posay press kit)

The texture is very creamy yet light. It doesn't have that usual weight of a creamy product. It spreads out nicely and you can feel the creamy texture of it and yet it's watery. It feels very fresh on my face and it leaves a slight dewy finish, when applied on top of my daily moisturizer. It gives a sheer to light coverage, so if you have acne scars or any imperfection you absolutely want to hide, it doesn't offer enough coverage to skip the concealer. It didn't made my skin oilier during the day and the sheer/light coverage actually lasted through the day. It doesn't emphasize dry skin and it kept the drier areas of face moisturize. It didn't break me out or irritated the sensitive area of my skin (chin and cheeks).

I also tried it without my daily moisturizer, because it says that it can be applied as a daily moisturizer too. By the texture of the product and by the brand's reputation, I had enough trust to use it as a moisturizer (in AM only of course). It didn't spread & blend as nicely as when I layer a moisturizer underneath. It didn't have enough slip on my actual normal skin, but I do think it would work well on combination to oily skin as a simple moisturizer. Here again, it didn't emphasize the dry skin and I must admit that it acts as a good moisturizer on its own. I wouldn't recommend to dry skin type people to use this only as a moisturizer because I don't think it would be enough. However, I think it would work great on its own for people with combination to oily skin.

When I squeezed out a pea size onto the back of my hand, I thought to myself "this is too pink for my skintone!". After I blended it out, it didn't seemed that bad. I used a thin layer over my daily moisturizer and it gave me a nice radiant glow and blended well into my NC20 skintone. However, when applied alone, without moisturizer underneath, the color is a lot too pink for my skintone since I use a bit more product. Even though I'm a NC20, I have more beige undertones than yellow undertones so I can get away easily with a sheer layer of pink undertone base, but it doesn't look flattering. It says that there's 2 universal shade, but I wouldn't recommend it to people with strong yellow undertones.

It is also interesting to note that La Roche-Posay is an eco-citizen brand that is committed to sensitive skin, dermatology and our planet!

It retails around 29$CAN in any Canadian drugstore that carries La Roche-Posay.

I hope you guys enjoyed! What do you think about La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB cream? Let me know!
Have a great week,
Love,

  1. I've dry skin so I'm a bit skeptical about using BB creams as a moisturiser. I'm glad to hear that this one is a good moisturiser on its own!
