Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes mascara review

When Sephora had their annual VIB 20% off sale, I wanted to grab stuff that I know that I would actually use and not *collect* hahaha. There's 4 things that I use on a daily basis : my skincare products, eyeliner, Shu Uemera eyelash curler and mascara. Over the time, I learned to finish a product before buying another one that I definitely didn't want to purchase more skincare products, my eyelash curler still works wonders and I just got a back up of my favorite eyeliner so I guess I had to pick up a new mascara!

I was searching for a more volumizing mascara, since the Imju Fiberwig that I got only seems to lengthen and separate. I have pretty long lashes but they are so thin and sparse! I wanted a little more oomph for lashes and a friend recommenced me the Lancome Hypnose volumizing mascara. I took a look and I spotted the new one which is Hypnose doll lashes!

Here's my video about it:

According to Lancôme: "The secret behind doll lashes, finally revealed! Lancôme’s most flirtatious lash look. A volumized, extended and full lash fringe for a wide-eye look. A new, unique, coneshaped brush provides an extremely smooth and clean application, precisely defining even your hard-to reach corners and lower lashes. Lift and thicken every single lash without weighing it down." (Source: Lancome.ca)

After I read that I was like "oh yeaahh?", threw it in the basket grabbed something else and quickly walked toward the cash before I throw more unnecessary products in my basket. I have a bad habit: I like to open my new products to test them out before finishing the other one (that's why I force myself to finish something up before buying a new one.)

At first, the formula looked on the wet side, there weren't much product on the brush and It would just separate my lashes and lengthen them a bit. BUT sometimes... First impressions are false! As I kept using it, I guess the formula kind of dried a little and I really like the effect of it! It holds my curls surprisingly well (for a non waterproof mascara) and doesn't weight them down. It does thicken a little bit, but doesn't give as much volume as the original hypnose one. It also gives a really pretty fanned out effect, which might be the "doll" look, thus the name "doll lashes". It doesn't clump at all on me, flake or smudge. Every lash is perfectly defined, thanks to the cone shape brush! It literally grabs every single lashes, even the ones in the outer corner!

I really like the packaging, I find it very cute & feminine but the price is stopping me from getting a backup. Is it worth 31$CAN? Absolutely not. I honestly think that you can find much better or equally better for less. It's just a question of knowing where, what & when. Overall, it is easy to remove.

Packaging: 5/5 Love the design!
Quality: 4.5/5
Price: 31$CAD
Would I repurchase? Noooooooooo... Too expensive for a mascara.

Have you ever tried this? What is your favorite mascara? Do you have any mascaras recommendation that is under 18$? =) Please let me know!

Love,

  1. This mascara has such a CUTE packaging. Yeah, I do have to agree that it is pretty expensive. I usually dont buy expensive mascara because I need to throw it out after 3months. I'm also pretty worried about my lashes falling out when trying to remove the mascara.
So thanks for the review. Hahaha yeah, i think i will just stick to drugstore mascaras.

  2. Nice video!! great to hear you talk :) I haven't tried Western brand mascaras in a long time but this one looks really promising. The length is very noticeable!

  3. The packaging and the name of this mascara makes it so tempting to get!

Yeah I don't think spelling or grammar is too big of a deal for blogs, but I just personally want to better my writing skills so that blogging is useful in another way for me =) I wish I could write in another language! I can only speak common Vietnamese. Because there's so many more difficult words that never comes across in everyday language, I'm left without ever knowing them. Wish I had paid more attention in French class when I was younger haha, but then again, I'm just the type not to take up language too well =\

  5. It's never too late to learn a new language! :D Speaking & writing in different languages has it downsides too. I tend to put "s" when a name is in plurial, because in french, there's generally always an "s" at the end of the word, but it english, you don't always have to put a "S". There's other many things that are confusing and I try my best to apply the right rules according to what I've learned :)

  6. I think that japanese mascaras are not comparable to western mascara! They're so much more cheaper & the quality is very good too!
